What are our homeownership counseling services?

Housing Assistance Corporation employs two certified Housing Counselors who work with households to achieve their dream of home ownership.

Counseling services are offered free of charge for low income households and are private and confidential. All consultations are one-on-one and based on your own specific circumstances.

Our homeownership counseling services provide one-on-one counseling to develop individualized homeownership plans. Some may need as few as a couple of sessions, while others may need several years of counseling. As long as a household is willing, the counselor will continue to provide support.

Our housing counselors are certified through NeighborWorks Center for Homeownership Education and Counseling (NCHEC).

Examples of reasons people desire housing counseling include, but are not limited to, learning about:

  • The benefits of renting versus buying homes.

  • If now is the right time for home ownership for you.

  • Realistic responsibilities of home ownership.

  • Financial planning in preparation of buying a home.

  • Understanding the basics of how credit scores impact your home buying process.

  • Certification in the home buyer education course.

  • The home buying process in general.

  • Working with real estate agents.

  • What goes on in a house inspection.

  • How closing on a house works.

“I am an ordinary guy. I like movies and I like to read a little bit. I had a dream to be a homeowner, but I couldn’t get anyone to believe that I could make it happen. With the help of the counselor and the education, it came true. I have never been late on a payment in 8 years.”
